Print management services are particularly well suited to businesses with a range of printing needs. At Toucan we act as facilitators, helping to plan, buy and oversee each print job, from the initial concept to delivery of the end product. This means that we aren’t limited in the products and services we can offer, and you can cut down the time you spend sourcing from different suppliers and dealing with multiple people.

We draw on our 20-plus years of experience to determine the most cost-effective printing methods for you. And because we offer a completely personalised service from the outset, we’ll also help you to identify what style of printing, paper stock, binding and/or finishing will best suit your artwork.

Our prices are industry-competitive and cheaper than many local printers. This is because we take our fees from our suppliers, rather than passing these costs on to you.

Ultimately, we can save you time and money.

You will then see the VAT applied in the cart. On exempt products the price you see is the price you will pay in the cart.

Products that are exempt from VAT include: Flyers, Leaflets, Booklets and brochures. There are some instances that VAT can be added to theses products but will will notify you if it’s applicable to your job.

It’s the section of your design that’s trimmed off when it’s cut to final size. Its purpose is to make sure your design or image reaches the very edge of the design and there are no white edges. At Toucan, we need a 3mm bleed on all documents.

It’s best if you can add bleed before you upload your document. Some programs – like InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop – allow you to do this. But if you need any help, just get in touch. If you can’t add bleed, send us your files and we’ll do our best to add it for you. But for the best results, we recommend adding it beforehand.

Trim line
Everything outside this trim / bleed line will be trimmed off. However, you should still extend your design to the edge of bleed zone to prevent the appearance of irregular white borders.

Safe zone
This is where you should place your most important information or sections of your design. Anything outside of this area runs a risk of being cut off. Using our online designer you will want to keep all your important content within this green box.

Most pictures on a screen are made up from small dots of colour. Each picture is made up by a certain number of dots or pixels. Quite simply the higher the number of pixels the higher quality the picture and the larger it can be displayed or printed without distorting. If a picture is enlarged beyond a certain point it will begin to distort and appear blurry.

A screen displays at 72dpi (dots per inch) where commercial presses print at 300dpi. You will need to start your artwork at 300dpi in order for it to print cleanly without blur. If you do your artwork at 72dpi and change it later to 300dpi it won’t fix the problem.

In a nutshell RGB (red, green black) is the colour mode for pixels on a computer screen. CMKY (cyan, megenta, black, yellow) is the colour make up used by printers for all printed products. Read more here on our blog post.

When creating your project, your software program may give you the choice of working in RGB (Red, Green and Blue) or CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black). We print using CMYK (as do all printers), so it’s best if you can work in CMYK. This prevents any colour shift that can happen if we convert your document ourselves.

Colour can look different on your screen compared to a printed page. This is because screens are backlit whereas a print reflects colour. If colour is critical, get in touch and we’ll do our best to get the result you want.
